Our quick must-dos for Marrakech

Phone data / currency

Roaming is pretty expensive in Marrakech so you’re best getting a data sim from the airport when you land. We paid €20 (or 200 MAD which is cheaper) for a 20GB sim and then hotspotted between us.

There is a currency exchange in the baggage terminal

Have space in your luggage

The markets in the Medina are filled with cheap home goods like bowls and rugs that you will want to bring back home with you. Make sure you have space to bring it all back with you.

Navigating the Medina

You’re likely going to be staying in or spending a lot of time in the Medina and it can be a maze at times with poor signal. Make sure you download the Medina map on Google Maps for offline viewing.

Remember you don’t need data for GPS tracking, as long as the map is downloaded you will be able to see where you are.

Walk on the right, it can get manic with people, bikes and donkeys.

What to eat

Mechoui Lamb from Chez Lamine, baked underground and served with bread and cumin salt.

Couscous (which is not a side but a whole delicious dish on its own).

Tagine of many different kinds which are all delicious.

Mint tea everywhere.

Comptoir Darna for a bougie dinner with the fashion elites and bellydancers.
