The Eagle Farringdon - London
Our Rating: ★★★ | ££££ - Rustic, no frills great grilled food (How we rate restaurants)
The Eagle is one of those spots that quietly nails what a proper gastropub should be. The menu is chalked up on large blackboards before each service and changes regularly, giving the place a sense of spontaneity and freshness.
We went for the Rump Steak Sandwich (Bifeana) – traditionally a Portuguese sandwich made with pork, but here it’s done with beef steaks instead. It was large, hearty, and packed with deep, earthy flavours. Alongside that, we tried Taleggio cheese with toast and slices of apple, which was brilliant – creamy, tangy, and perfectly balanced.
The inside has a rustic, rickety charm with wooden tables and chairs, a simple dining hall feel, and an open kitchen where the grill flames up every so often. You can feel the smoke and heat as soon as you walk in, which only adds to the atmosphere.
We saw plenty of fish dishes coming out that looked incredible, so we’ll definitely be back to try them next time.
A brilliant spot for a hearty work lunch or a laid-back evening meal in Farringdon.
