O! Hamos! Review, Milos

Our Rating: ★★★ | ££££ - Our favourite taverna, if not favourite restaurant ever (How we rate restaurants)

A family-run tavern since Feb 1993 and set just steps from the golden sands of Papikinou Beach, O! Hamos! in Milos might just be the Greek taverna of our dreams, and quite possibly one of our favourite restaurants on the planet. Yes, it's that good.

From the moment you spot the hand-written menu and the resident cat lounging at the entrance, it’s clear O! Hamos! is something special. With open courtyard dining, every dish served on local clay ceramics, and milk sourced from their very own goats, this is a place that doesn't just serve food; it feels like you’ve been invited into a Greek house.

What Makes It Special

This is Greek hospitality at its finest. No reservations, no pretension - just delicious, soulful food served in a setting that has character. While you wait for your table (and you will wait - we recommend arriving for 7 pm), you can sip a drink at the beach bar across the road. Sand between your toes, Aegean views, and a glass of local wine? Yes, please.

O! Hamos! champions a true farm-to-table philosophy, and you can taste the difference. Their meats and cheeses come from their own farm; prepared with genuine care.

What to Order (trust us we went twice)

  • Grilled cheese made from goat’s milk – Creamy, rich, and slightly tangy.

  • Goat with lemon mustard sauce – The goat melts in your mouth, the sauce is light but packs a punch, and the potatoes are pure comfort (soft and golden).

  • Baked lamb in paper – Fall-apart tender lamb with a yoghurt crumb

  • Black bean orzo – Hearty and earthy, perfect with the goat.

  • Aubergine salad – Refreshing, zingy, and a perfect cooling counterpart.

  • Chickpeas – Spiced beautifully and so comforting.

  • Fried feta wrapped in pastry with honey – Crunchy, creamy, sweet and salty: it's got everything.

  • Green beans with tomato – A simple stunner: crisp, cold, and naturally sweet.

A word on dessert

As our dessert-obsessed reviewer, I was so enamoured with the chocolate hazelnut mousse that we ordered it not once, but twice. The second time, we’d eaten so much at dinner that there was simply no room left for dessert at the table, but that didn’t stop us.

We took the mousse to go, because there’s always room for dessert - sometimes you just need a little breather before diving back into that silky, Nutella-like goodness later in the evening.

We’ve been trying to recreate it since!

The Vibe

Romantic yet relaxed. You’re surrounded by handcrafted touches and local art, sea breeze in your hair, and the hum of happy diners around you. It feels like a family home restaurant/ garden. And while the popularity means a bit of a wait, it’s all part of the experience, especially when it ends with such an unforgettable meal by the sea.

The Final Word

If you're on Milos and love food, you have to go to O! Hamos!. Twice, if you can. The care they put into their food and setting makes every bite feel so warming. It’s authentic, it’s charming, and we already can’t wait to go back.
